Prof. Tiit Land is an Estonian biochemist and university leader with a strong background in neurochemistry and higher education governance. He earned his degree in chemistry from the University of Tartu in 1989 and completed his PhD in neurochemistry and neurotoxicology at Stockholm University in 1994. Following his doctoral studies, he conducted postdoctoral research at the U.S. National Institutes of Health. He later continued his academic career at Stockholm University as a researcher and lecturer in neurochemistry and neurotoxicology. In 2007, Land was appointed Professor of Chemistry at Tallinn University. He has held several senior academic leadership positions, including Director of the Institute of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Tallinn University. From 2011 to 2020, he served as Rector of Tallinn University. Since 2020, he has been Rector of Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech). His academic work focuses on biochemistry; particularly molecular mechanisms related to iron metabolism and neurological processes. In addition to his research and teaching, he has played a significant role in shaping higher education policy and research strategy in Estonia.
